New York, New York

This weeks challenge was to use a photo of NY at night, taken by the designer, as inspiration for a girl out on the town outfit.
I have to say I was not all that impressed this week. The designs that were half way decent were blah and the others were just appaling.
The winner...

Other favorite....

The looser....

The one I thought was worst....

Finally the LR girl. It was okay but nothing exciting....

I except a little more style and innovation next week designers!

Home Projects

So the other day I discovered orignal hardwood floors under our bedroom carpet. We already have hardwoods in the guest room, hall, and front living/dining room. The floors in the front room and hall are in pretty good shape but the guest room was a mess. I had a professional come out and quote me $1800, $1800. yes $1800 to refinish all the rooms. Ha! I asked Coby if we could try to rip up the carpet in the bedroom and and refinsh them ourselves. He said "No" with many excuses to back up his "No". So....This morning when Coby went to play golf I went to Home Depot and bought an orbital hand sander. I was kind of leary to rent one of the big floor sanders, fear of sanding myself through the foundation. I went home remove the "base shoe"- small strip of wood (or other material) that protect the part of the wallpaper or paint job that withstands damage from foot traffic, furniture and other normal wear and tear at the bottom of the wall. Impressive-eh. Then I began sanding my way to a new floor. First I used a 40 grit sandpaper, next 80 then 100 for a smooth floor. Then I will polyurethane to seal it. Really not so hard-$1800 my batooti. If all goes well in the guest room it's on the the front and bedroom (we'll have to rip out carpet-how exciting!) I think about a floor sander.

We also added this cute little chalk board to our kitchen wall the other day. Some chalk board paint and molding. (I have got to remember to get chalk at the wal-mart!)

Lastly, I found this old timey milk jug at an estate sale for $10. I have always wanted one, don't ask why. Maybe because I was allergic to milk when I was younger. Anyway, I'm thinking of painting it. Any good ideas to make it something useful and a little more original than an umbrella holder?

Off to use 80 grit!

The beautiful go green

This week on The Project the model were the clients and they went to the fabric store to choose "green" fabrics. All designers made cocktail dresses.
My favorite this week....

The winner....

Who's Out?.....

Korto, LR resident, was in the bottom three this week. I must agree with the judges but I'm glad she will move on to next week.

"Make it work"

Season 5 of Project Runway has finally begun! It looks like this will be a great season, so many different designers and personalities!
The first challenge was a throw back to season 1. The designers had to buy their material from a grocery store.
So far my favorite and the winner is Kelli. Her design was from bleached vacuum bags, coffee filters, metal brads, and a hook and eye closure from a spiral notebook!

The next most interesting was Daniel. He made this out of plastic Solo cups!

AND THIS!... THIS WAS HORID! Jerry had alot of talk but little follow through. A shower cutain, table cloth, and rubber glove. A great look for a butcher!

Lastly, Korto is a desinger originally from Liberia but currently resides just outside of LR! Isn't that exciting.

She seems to have a lot of style. She made this out of a yellow paper tablecloth, tomatoes and leeks!

See you on the runway!

FORE!

Coby took me golfing yesterday after work. We went to Fort Roots 9-hole course. This was only my 3rd game but I really enjoy it and think I am gradually improving, plus it's nice to be outside doing something active and fun. At one point we were both sitting the the cart when a ball came flying in from across the course and hit the seat directly between the both of us. What are the odds? It added a bit of thrill to the afternoon.

After golfing Coby took me to Emerald Park in NLR. It's by Pulaski Tech. I never knew this place was there. It's just a little walking path that leads to a few river overlook points. A hidden gem!

I'm off to cook dinner. I am really proud of my self, I have plans to cook dinner every night this week. I know you will probaly think I'm an OCD dork but I have complied a dinner database of sorts. It's on the computer and I can go to it and choose dinner for the whole week, make a shopping list, and not have to eat out at all. So far it's working. This week is...halibut with safron and ardichokes, spicy shrimp pizza, feta topped chicken, eggplant parmesan, and spanish mealoaf. We'll keep thinking positivly and hope that this daily cooking thing continues!

Leaving you with a few pictures of the dogs playing. They are so funny together! Chox looks a lot meaner in these pics. than he really is.

Dogs and Babes

It's been a lazy summer but it's going by fast. We went camping for July fourth weekend. The plan was to island camp but after two attemps to get there-boat #1 broke down, boat#2 had missing keys- we decided to get a campsite. Know that it was 4th of July weekend we took the first site avaliable, but it was only avaliable for one night. We set up camp-tent, stove, water, food. Then we found out that there had been a cancellation and we could get a site for the whole weekend. So...Coby drove the truck down the road while I sat in the back holding onto the already popped tent-what a sight this must have been. Needless to say we were not in the mood to take a pic. but now I wish we had. I rained for hours on Saturday so we decided to pack it up and head home. In the process we discovered our old tent was no longer all that water proof-we will be getting a new tent prior to the next camping trip. All in all it was a sucessful first camping trip as a married couple.
We went to the lake with my parents, brother, and his girl friend last weekend. We took both dogs and they worn themselves out between the water, and ball/fishing bobber chasing.

Coby's brother, Jamie, and his wife, Dana, had their baby boy last week. What cute boys.Skylar Harmon Smith and his older brother Brady.
