Meal Plan Monday

Grilled Chicken Sandwiches and okra
Fried Rice
Cajun Chicken Pasta
Meatloaf and green beans
Koren slow cooker short ribs

lackadaisical

I saw these cute camera straps on etsy and thought "I can do that". So today, after cleaning the house with tons of help from my wonderful husband, I whipped on out. It's not quite as professional as some but it's pretty cute and only took about 20 minutes. Here's a before and after.

Last night I did some major, much needed filing. What a headache but I feel much more together now that it's done.

We might go to Sticky Fingers tonight to listen to a friend of Coby's band, or we might not. Don't you love those kind of weekends? Tomorrow is church, then washing/waxing the car, then Bible study. Off to make a grocery list for next week.

weekend ways

Not a very exciting weekend but I like it that way most times. We went to shutter island Saturday it was good, one we might rent when it comes out. Saturday night was pizza and Razorback basketball game played to the wire with a poor outcome. I also made reservations for dinner and a room at James At The Mill and Inn At The Mill. We have tickets to a game in Fayetville in a few weekends so we thought we would make it a weekend. While I was in the traveling mode I planned us a trip to San Francisco over July 4th. A ways out but I like to be prepared. Anyone been there? Any tips or suggestions? Leaving you with some silly video of Tasso talking like Chewbacca (or Chubaca, can anyone clarify?). And a picture of Chox in trouble. He had his whole head in the bag at one point but I couldn't get the camera fast enough

so i can sew

Dorothy from Kitchen Koala finally received her package I sent for our Valentine's Exchange. Here is what I sent her.
A lovely apron.

And coordinating kitchen towels and over sized hot plate holder.

I figured I would make her something that might be somewhat functional. What with her kitchen skillz and all. Go to her blog to see better pictures.
I also said I would talk a little more about the "altered book" I made Coby for Valentine's Day. I went to Barnes and Noble and found a hardboard book in the children's are on sale for $3. (It was rather large and long. I recommend something a little smaller for your first one.) I stopped by Hobbily Lobbily and picked up some scrapbooking material and modge podge. Altering a book is basically like scrapbooking but not so many pages, with more of a theme, and I think it allows for a little bit more creativity. I covered all the pages with different sheets of paper with the modge podge. Then I cut out some pictures and wrote out some thoughts and poems on the pages. I then went back and added a little more decorative detail. Then I coated the whole thing with a little more modge podge. (WARNING: make sure ALL pages are COMPLETELY dry before closing or they will obviously-or not quite so obviously- stick.) I loved this project and will defiantly try it again. Please feel free to ask any more specific questions. It made for a great gift. Coby was totally impressed and it is something he can keep forever.
The base product.

The front cover. (Please excuse the sappiness.)

The back cover.

The spine.

Some pages in between.

Now I am off to eat some yummy chicken gumbo in honor of Fat Tuesday and watch some LOST!

So Romantical

I really had a wonderful Valentine's weekend and I hope you all did as well. Friday night my wonderful husband rented "Couples Retreat" (it was okay) and we had a nice quiet evening at home. Saturday I spent the morning doing a training session at camp then went with a friend, Dave, to look at some houses. He and my good friend Dee are planning on moving soon but she had to study for her CPA exam all day Saturday so I went with Dave to have a woman's perspective. And I love looking at houses even when I'm not the one looking. When I got home Saturday evening my wonderful hubby had dinner ready. I think Valentine's Day is the absolute BEST holiday to be married to a chef. Look at what he cooked up for me.
A seared Ahi tuna salad.

Pan seared lamb with green beans and puple potatos (yes they really are purple, no food coloring).

And for dessert. Vanilla bean creme brule with carmelized strawberries.

After dinner we had plans to go see "Valentine's Day" but the line was crazy and the only seats left were in the very front. So we got a refund on the tickets and took a long drive around the city.
When we got home we had some wine, and chocolate covered strawberries (isn't he wonderful) and watched last weeks SNL and the olympics.

I made him an altered book about how much I love him. Mushy, right? More on this in another post.
He got me a new camera bag and fisheye lenses.

Sunday we got up and cleaned the house then headed Hot Springs to go to the races. I was going to use my new lense but it started snowing, hard, and I was afraid to have my camera get to wet. We didn't win (I never win) but we had a good time anyway. Now we are back home to a clean house and warm fire. A perfect ending to a perfect weekend.
Thanks baby, for being the best husband in the world. My life would have never been complete without you. Love you big time.

Treats that are Sweet

My Valentine's Day exchange gift came in yeasterday. Oh what a treat I got. Dorothy went above and beyond what I expected. Hopefully my gift to her won't disappoint (I ventured out yesterday to drop it in the mail). She sent me TONS, I mean TONS of sweet treats. It was all packaged beautifully and everything I have tasted so far has been FANTASTIC. There is so much I don't know how Coby and I will work our way through it all, but I'm sure we'll find a way to muster through;) Our youth at church are having a Valentine's Day dinner and bake sale for their upcomming mission trip. I might package some of the treats up and donate. Notice I said MIGHT. She packaged all the treats and sealed them individualy. Very professional.
Here are some (poorly taken) pictures from my iphone. Go the the Kitchen Koala to see better pictures and get all the recipes.

I'll post about the gift I made for her once she receives it. Wouldn't want to ruin the surprise now would we?

Lastly....

Yet again.

I'd like to thanks all the little people.

Guess what?! I have received my first "blogger" award. I know kind of silly, but it's an award. A gift. Something someone has given me without having to enter any contest. So I gladly accept this award from my new friend and Valentine's Day exchange partner Dorothy @ Kitchen Koala. She is great. Always baking up something. She has tons of recipes, great pictures of her creations, and also belongs to a Paula Deen group. Even if you don't like baking or cooking go check her out because her blog is pretty.

3. Link the person who nominated you for the award
4. Tell 7 interesting things about yourself

3. I spent my formative summers working at the best place on earth, Camp Aldersgate.

Do You Know Her?

My cousin Audrey introduced me to the Pioneer Woman. She is great. Funny. Lots of recipes. Great photography tips and activities. I referenced some of her tutorials here. She has a group going on know about shallow depth-of-field. You can upload your pictures to her Flickr group. Here are a few of the pictures I am going to upload.

and now we thaw

The sun is shining, the snow is melting, and life feels like it might return to it's normal routine in the next day or so, maybe. Weather man is predicting the possibility of snow during the end of the week, and we all know how accurate these kind of predictions are. The snow caused a few problems for us over the last few days. I took my car to the shop on Sunday night to get some routine repairs done. My dad let me borrow his TrailBlazer for Monday. Waking up to snow I realized I would be going no where and my dad would need his car. Coby went from work to pick up my dad and take him to our house to get his car. With the weather they were unable to fix the car yesterday but I just called and they said it would be ready this afternoon. With me traveling between schools and Coby going into work at 6:00 most days it's hard when there is only one car. Do I sound like a greedy westerner or what? At least its a high MPG civic.
The power went out for about and hour yesterday. I wasn't at all surprised that we lost it but was surprised it came back on so quickly. We are known to loose power quite frequently and I think a few squirrels are to blame.
AND THEN...
I was sitting in the recliner yesterday and started to hear a "plink, plink, plink". I got up only to discover that our roof was leaking!!! We JUST had it inspected for insurance purposes and they said everything looked good. Huph. It was over the tiled laundry room, thankfully. It was an addition and has a flat roof that doesn't drain well. I put buckets and towels out. Coby came home and got up on the roof to shovel snow and poor hot buckets of water down the gutters. We'll see if insurance will pay for repairs.

Snowclumps

It is snowing, and THIS is NOT Arkansas snow. We're not talking a light little dusting we are talking snowclumps falling from the sky. The weather man (who we trust, right?) says to expect 6-8"!!!! I'm thinking we will be in school until the end of JULY! Here are some videos and pictures.

Chox being the pestering little brother that he is.

Tasso and his ball. (He was in a panic when we first went out because the snow had covered it.)

Chox loves to eat the snow!

I wish I would have sped up my shutter speed. Oh well is was cold.

Lazy weekends are the BEST!

Our weekend has been very low key. Friday night we went to our niece, Peri's, gymnastic meet. Super cute but good gracious they ALL (~40 girls) did their floor routine to the SAME song. It was about 60 mintues too much of a jazzy little instrumental number. BUT, Peri did great and had a wonderful time. There are pictures below. Speaking of pictures go here for a GREAT tutorial on SLR basics.
I have finished the Twilight series, and Breaking Dawn was definatly my favorite in the series. I finished the second half on Saturday (ignoring the dirty house) curled up on the couch. Now I miss my mortal, immortal, and supernatural friends. Anxiously awaiting to see them again on the big screen.
We went to church today then out to lunch with my parents. We came home cleaned the house and now my lovely husband in preparing dinner (grilled salmon and vegetables). There are many superbowl parties being held today but Coby dislikes watching "big" games with lots of other people. Fine with me. I'm in my pj's and it's only 4:30.
It's almost Valentine's Day and I am so excited. I have my Valentine's Day exchange present ready to go as well a special something I am working on for Coby. I can't wait to post pictures next Sunday!I'm off to work on our dinner menu for next week!

What's your fortune?

Our Sunday School class is making it a point this year to be more encouraging to our pastors and church staff. I took the month February and wanted to do something cute for Valentine's Day. Here is what I came up with.
Cards to all the staff and pastors and cute little "fortune cookies".
My fortune cookies did not turn out as well as Martha's but what are ya gonna do? I think I should have used a higher gauge wire but I just used what I already had. These were very simple and turned out so cute. I slipped bible verses about love and a chocolate kiss into them.
